Amy Greenbaum

Senior Lead Investigator, Research & Litigation Group at Labaton Sucharow LLP

Children:

Noah - 2

BCM - How did your life change when you became a mom?

Amy - It really wasn't what I had expected!  I'm not going to lie, everything changed.  I lost my independence and gained a whole lot of responsibility, but it is so worth it.  Being a mom is the hardest and most rewarding thing I've ever done.  To know that there is this little person out there who depends so much on you is terrifying at first but you get the hang of it.

BCM - What has been your most memorable moment (s) as a mom?

Amy -This is a very hard question to answer since everyday is something new and exciting.  This past fall, we took him to see the Gazillion Bubbles Show.  Noah was fascinated by the show and screamed "baaabooles", "yay" and applauded the entire show.  Much of the audience was watching Noah and entertained by his enthusiasm.

Most recently, its been Noah's vocabularly explosion.  Matt and I are stunned by how quickly he picks up new words and concepts everyday.

BCM - What has been the biggest challenge for you in motherhood.  Any advice for new moms?

Amy - If you're the kind of person who has to plan everything out (like me), get used to abandoning that because your child dictates much of your schedule.  Also, try to not compare your child to other children.  I know it's hard but your child is unique and is going to do things at a different pace then another child.

Also, I highly recommend making sure that you have time for yourself.  Mothers tend to want to do everything, but you are entitled to getting a little help of your own!  When I first had Noah, someone told me "it takes a village" and it really does, especially as a working mom.  Don't be afraid to depend on family, friends, the nanny, etc to help you, it doesn't make you any less of a good mother.

Lastly, I'm blessed to have a husband that is as devoted to Noah as I am.  We are truly a team.  There is no such thing as one thing being my job and another being his.  We are together every step of the way.

BCM - How do you manage your work life balance?

Amy - Work life balance is definitely a constant issue for me.  In my opinion, being a working mom makes me a better mom.  It allows me to appreciate every moment I spend with Noah.  My best advice to working moms is to make sure that you are leaving your child with someone you trust.  There are some days that I'm inundated at work but I almost always make sure that I'm home to give Noah dinner, put him to bed and then continue working from home.

BCM - What types of activities do you like to do w/ Noah?

Amy - I love taking Noah to try new things, currently his two favorite things are animals and trains.  Last week we took him to the Museum of Natural History for the first time.  He especially loved the butterfly exhibit.  It was so exciting to see him react to them and actually hold one.

BCM- What has been your favorite Big City Moms event to date?

Amy - I love the "Biggest Baby Shower."  There is so much excitement especially for first time moms.  I've also really enjoyed all of the seminars.  I found that the breastfeeding workshop for expectant moms was much more informative then the class I took through my hospital.  The new moms lunches were also really good.  I delivered in January so there weren't that many places to go with a newborn, so I found myself attending the new mom lunches throughout my entire maternity leave.

FUN FACTS:

I’m totally obsessed with

Amy - My iPad, my husband bought me it for Hannukah and I can't get enough of it...plus we bring it to dinner with Noah so that we can actually sit through a meal.

My biggest influence is

Amy - My mother....my mom was also a working mother and she has taught me a lot about work/life balance. She has also given me a lot of advice on parenting.  We talk about 10 times a day and her first question every morning is "How is Noah?". She is so in love with him and such a support system for me.

My favorite drugstore buy is...

Amy - Everything! I can literally go into a drugstore for one thing and walk-out having spent $100.  One baby product that I found very helpful during the teething phase was Boiron Camila, its basically chamomile tea in a dropper that helps soothe the baby without medicating him.

Products I can’t live without...

Amy - My newest product that I"m in love with is Givenchy mascara. Its the first mascara, I have ever used that isn't under my eyes within minutes.  I also could never live without my straightening iron, lip gloss, etc.

My guilty pleasure is...

Amy - Facebook.  I spend way too much time on Facebook... More than I would really like to admit.

Favorite restaurant

Amy - I have so many.  Recently I had a girls night out with some other mommys and we went to The Hurricane Club, it was a lot of fun!
