BCM - How did your life change when you became a mom?
Kathryn - Life got irrevocably better. Harder, but better.
BCM - What has been your most memorable moment (s) as a mom?
Kathryn - It would have to be the births of my children Henry and Loulou. The first time I saw each of them is etched indelibly in my mind.
BCM - What has been the biggest challenge for you in motherhood. Any advice for new moms?
Kathryn - Forgive yourself. You don't have to get everything right to have great kids.
BCM - Congratulations on the success of your app RedRover! What was the inspiration behind creating the app?
Kathryn - I think that we as parents can share a lot more information to make all our lives better. Take for instance when I go to one park with my kids and then find out later that my kids' friends were all at a different nearby park at the same time. We could have all met up and had a great time, but we didn't know. I wouldn't want to annoy a large group of friends with a text that said, "Oh hey, we're hanging out at the park for an hour", but if there's a way I can let them know without intruding -- like by putting it on my RedRover timeline -- I'd love for them to know and have my day be that much richer.
Also, I like to share my opinions (my 2 cents) on what is kid-friendly and great in my neighborhood. I think it's about time parents' have a tool that helps them navigate neighborhoods near and far. I like to open RedRover when I'm in an unfamiliar neighborhood and see which places other parents have voted kid-friendly and see what kind of tips they've left.
There's great opportunity to improve our days logistically and share information that can make small but important improvements to each day. RedRover hopes to fill it.
BCM - How can Big City Moms benefit from Red Rover?
Kathryn - Big City Moms can find kid-friendly restaurants and clean bathrooms on the go as well as make plans and playdates (girls' night out is particularly popular) on RedRover. There are also awesome event listing highlights from TimeOutKids in New York City and Chicago.
BCM - How do you manage your work life balance?
Kathryn - Hah. This question makes me laugh. I'm not sure I do. Balance is that elusive goal everyone's looking for. I just try to keep laughter and good friends in the mix every day. RedRover helps as a little dose of humor or support in a chat or a plan with a friend on a stressful day can be a huge help.
Actually helping all moms have more balance in their lives is why I built RedRover. I think technology can take on some of the burden and leave us more time for fun and joy in our lives.
BCM- How do you maintain your sense of style while juggling your career and your kids?
Kathryn - Honestly, I have a uniform. I wear jeans, boots and a flowy blouse pretty much every day. I tend to find brands I like and just stick with them. Right now I love J Brand jeans and Joie tops and sweaters.
BCM - What types of activities do you like to do w/ your kids?
Kathryn - I love road trips with them, particularly to agricultural areas where we can do things like apple or pumpkin-picking. I also like to sneak out of work sometimes and take them for ice cream cones.
BCM- What has been your favorite Big City Moms event to date?
Kathryn - I love the Biggest Baby Shower. I'm so excited that I'll be there with my RedRover team this year as a sponsor.
