BCM - How did your life change when you became a mom?
Lori - Besides having not slept in seven years, my life finally has a purpose. I started to appreciate all the sacrifices my parents made for me - You really know what heartache is. Every day is a surprise. Your love becomes limitless, you feel invincible.
BCM - What has been your most memorable moment (s) as a mom?
Lori - My son's natural philanthropic nature to constantly give to people in need, (i.e.: donating to people Haiti and Japan), getting a call from my son's kindergarten teacher that he kissed a girl and my children's love and constant devotion to one another. My daughter Dylan's love for her brother and admiration for her family. She reminds us every day that her family is the most important part of her life!
BCM - What has been the biggest challenge for you in motherhood. Any advice for new moms?
Lori - Setting a routine and boundaries, being consistent with what I say and do. The best advice I can offer to a new mom is anything that you promote with a positive attitude; your kids will love, ALWAYS be honest. Your bad day shouldn't be their bad day. You find that your child's pain feels much worse than your own.
BCM - Congrats on the recent launch of Project Soulmate? What inspired you to start your company?
Lori - After a decade of being a recruiter, I started Project Soulmate because I turned my love of connecting people into a business. My whole life I have been passionate and successful at setting people up, knowing love is recession proof. It was the inevitable next step in my life.
BCM - Do you have any advice for other moms who are looking to start a company?
Lori - Always go for your dreams, regret nothing. With that being said, do as much research as possible to learn about your market/demographic.
BCM - How do you manage your work life balance?
Lori - As a close friend said "I want to be a mom that works, not a working mom." My family is and always will be my first priority- they know whenever they need me 24/7 I will be there. Also they know Mommy needs "mommy time" and playdates too. My friends are my family and they are also a priority. Being a mom doesn't mean neglecting your self. EVERYDAY I find some "Lori time" whether it is a quick workout or lunch alone. If I don't love and nurture myself I wouldn't be able to nurture my children as well.
BCM - What types of activities do you like to do w/ Ithan and Dylan?
Lori - Everything!! From painting pottery- dance contests- swinging in the park- monthly trips to the museums, concerts, plays, selling lemonade on the street corner to making cookies with frosting to chicken soup. Taking family baths, flying a kite on the beach. We take our dogs to the dog park and have "puppy play groups" What don't we do?!?
BCM- What has been your favorite Big City Moms event to date?
Lori - Hands down - The biggest baby Shower!
