Baby Love

Of all the style situations, the one that seems to be as exciting as it is daunting is dressing the baby bump. I am not there yet, nor have I been but from what I hear via friends and clients is that it is the cute factor of the belly draws you in, yes I can do this be all adorable and pregnant, but then the reality of a wardrobe budget and what works with your new figure all ends up being quite overwhelming. Enter me 🙂 Just like any other fashion conundrum my approach to making you look as blissful on the outside as you feel on the inside is about mixing the high and low brands and putting an emphasis on fit.

Here are my five tips to put together a maternity wardrobe that will have you feeling fantastic and make you the chicest bump on the block:

1. At some point you are going to have to buy *some* r-e-a-l maternity clothes. Granted many non-maternity things can be finagled into working, you should have a couple key pieces on hand like denim, black dress pants, a universal dress in a fabric that stretches like jersey, and a few tops {aside from knit tanks and tees} to get you through your third trimester if nothing else.

2. When buying maternity clothes think of the different ways these pieces can work. Probability is EVERYTHING. The plaid shirt in this post can be worn alone, under the sweatshirt as shown, with a navy suit jacket or cardigan sweater, you have to give yourself options. No dead end pieces please.

3. UMM I have seen, maternity wear can be expensive! Set a budget and go over your calendar. Figure out if you’ll get more use out of spending a good portion of your dollars on designer maternity denim or is getting a dress for events more beneficial. If this is your first and you plan on birthing on soccer team, I say go for both! 😉

4. Some of these items will help you when you get those random days post-delivery to leave the house, so don’t just think they are for handful of months.

5. I am a broken record but will continue to say this, when you look good, you feel good and this whole wonderful domino effect of radiating that to others begins to happen. Along with all the other major plans becoming a mom comes with, this is a fun and frivolous one. So when drilling “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” becomes too much, take a little “you” time and find a few pieces that make you feel like Nicole Richie or Gwen Stefani who make getting pregnant look like the best fashion show ever.
