December 2010

Jason Olim

Founder of

Wee - Web

Children
Milo - 1

BCM – How did your life change when you became a dad?

Jason – Milo’s arrival changed me in a way I never thought: he got me onto a regular schedule. In bed by 11, up at 7. Stop work at 6 for dinner and bath. I even don’t mind getting up to entertain the boy when he gets up extra early.

BCM – What has been your most memorable moment(s) as a dad?

Jason – My favorite part of the day is giving Milo his bath. Every night around 6.30 I have an opportunity to check in with him and take stock of how he is growing. It’s the same ritual every night, which makes it easier to see what’s changed. I love how he has become more active, engaged and involved in his bath; how he’s learned to pick up (and eat) the duck and octopus; how his communications have expanded with laughs, squeals and raspberries.

BCM – Wee Web is a great idea! Why made you decide to get into the Social Networking business?

Jason – Just as my love of music led me to create CDNOW, my love of my family led me to want to lead Wee Web. My wife’s family and friends live in Germany and England; mine are scattered across the US. We needed a way to share updates on Milo with everyone, and using email or facebook just didn’t cut it. With Wee Web, I can integrate private information about Milo with select facebook friends as well as family members who don’t or won’t use facebook.

BCM –  What are some key benefits of using Wee Web?

Jason – My wife’s great aunt in England gave us a little orange cat doll when Milo was born. She wanted to make sure that it was Milo’s favorite toy. Over the last 8 months, she has been following “mini-Chompy’s” exploits, since he is featured regularly in pictures and videos of Milo.

One of the best things about Wee Web is that when we get together, everyone already knows the most important details, so we can get to the fun stuff more quickly. Our relationships are deeper because we keep track of the important things through Wee Web.

BCM – How do you balance your public vs. private life as a parent online?

Jason –  I am trying to be more public online. I tend to be pretty private about my life, and I don’t share much beyond my family and close friends. I’ve been doing more facebook posting and blogging to keep people informed on what’s happening. That’s why I am making it easy on Wee Web to share what I want with whom I want.

BCM – What types of activities do you like to do with Milo?

Jason – We like to read together. OK, I do the reading and he turns the pages. Also, we like to take walks to the green market. He doesn’t mind turning his stroller into the shopping cart and being carried home.

BCM – Which BCM event was your favorite?

Jason – I haven’t been to a BCM event, but I still have a favorite: the one where my wife Teresa came home with a lovely diary to track Milo’s eating, sleeping and pooing. We used it for the first couple months after he was born to help us keep on schedule.
