BCM - How did your life change when you became a mom?

Becky-

I waited a long time to be a mother due to infertility (36)---my life took on a different focus when jake came into this world.  What used to be so important wasn't anymore.

BCM- What has been your most memorable moment (s) as a mom?

Becky- -

There are two: #1 I was in the delivery room with Jakes birth mother when he was born ---that was amazing. The second was: The first time he asked to hold my hand.

BCM- What has been the biggest challenge for you in motherhood?

Becky-

The process of adoption is a challenge in itself---but in day to day life---its juggling all the pieces of being a working mom and a wife.

BCM - You have several businesses including a PR firm and HelpusAdopt, what inspired you to start them?

Becky-

I was director of marketing for Philadelphia magazine and resigned in 1999 to start  The Fawcett Group PR and a family so I could have the best of both worlds---work from home and be home to see my family.

Helpusadopt.org  was inspired from my own personal journey-----an average adoption costs $25,000 and since 80% of the people who seek out adoption each year are past infertility patients ---usually, they have already depleted their savings.  So two things happen----either they risk financial ruin to adopt a child or they live a childless life.  To me that is unacceptable.  Helpusadopt.org was born to help couples and individuals with their adoption expenses.

BCM- How do you manage your work/life balance?   Any advice for new moms?

Becky-

Its not always easy. I do not have a black berry, I do not turn my computer on over the weekends and I don't work Fridays----Fridays are Jake's Day!   My advice is that its ok to ask for help when you need it---even moms need a break once in a while.

BCM- What activities do you like to do with your son and why?

Becky-

We've taken Little Maestros, Jodi's Gym and Gymboree---Right now we're doing a music and art class at Diller Quaile and it's wonderful.

BCM - Other than classes what activities do you like to do with your son?

Becky-We like to visit people, have friends over for dinner and sometimes go out to dinner.  For me it is very important to maintain my friendships with both my friends that have kids and those who don't.

BCM - How do you maintain your sense of style while juggling several businesses  and your son?

Becky-I love fashion and enjoy getting dressed each day-it's just what I do.  My aunt gave Jake the book "Fancy Nancy" in hopes that it will help him understand me someday---it was cute.

BCM- What are your favorite “Mom Essentials” and why?

Becky-- I love my Gucci diaper bag as rediculous as it is and every delivery person in New York City.

BCM-If you could give another mom or expectant mom one piece of advice, what would it be?

Becky-- Maintain your sense of self.

BCM - Do you have a motto you would like to share with other moms?

Becky-  When the rest of the world seems to much to bear---hug your child---nothing else matters
