BCM- How did your life change when you became a mom?
Line - With my first baby I not only became a new mom, but an inventor and a business owner as well! Giving birth made me feel empowered. I remember feeling both ecstatic and excited, but also a little dazed and amazed. This little human that independently developed inside my belly was now resting safely in my arms. I was on an emotional high and I became more driven and focused than ever before.
BCM- What has been the biggest challenge for you in motherhood?
Line -My biggest challenge has always been time (or lack there of…). I would love to spend all of my time with my children while also fulfilling my ambitions and dreams. Everyday I wish that I had more than one life. By having more than one child and a company, I feel that sometimes I am missing out on some thing(s)!
Any advice for new moms?
Line - Some things, but not everything, are possible! Just Relax … You will soon realize that you can achieve more than you ever thought, as long as you are willing to accept that not everything will be possible … and that is just … OK.
BCM- What activities do you like to do with your kids?
Line -I love the moments where there is very little activity; when one is reading a book, one is playing on the floor, one is doing home work, and we are just there, enjoying being together and without plans or a rush to the next scheduled thing….those are the moments that I love!
BCM- Glamourmom is an incredible company!! What inspired you to start the company?
Line -The Glamourmom® Nursing Bra Tank was born in 2000 about two months after I began nursing my first daughter. I desperately searched for a nursing bra top that could provide full support, easy access to my breasts and discretion for my post-partum belly. Frustrated because I found nothing, I designed what did not yet exist on the market, a tank top with a unique full support built-in nursing bra, I just loved it and so did many new mothers. Very shortly thereafter I created the first top and Glamourmom was founded.
BCM - When you started the company you had 1 nursing tank, now it seems like you have hundred of products. Do you have a favorite?
Line -I can’t pick a favorite as I love them all. They all serve the purpose of making the new mom comfortable in her new breastfeeding lifestyle while regaining her pre-pregnancy life and fashion sense! I am especially satisfied when a new mom tells me that she “breastfed longer wearing a Glamourmom product!” My ultimate intention is to give all moms a “go-to” nursing brand that gives them contemporary options in their wardrobe while providing the most unique and well thought innovations on the market that truly are designed with the nursing mom in mind.
BCM - Can you share some advice for moms who are planning to start their own company?
Line -I recently started blog where I draw many parallels to being a mom and the founder of a business http://linerothman.blogspot.com/ . The advice is a look at my perspective on life before and after starting a business. There are so many ways to build upon your interests while maintaining a family . . . essentially it takes a lot of passion, patience and perseverance!
BCM- How do you manage your work/life balance?
Line - I keep calendars and notes – which are everywhere.
BCM- Name your favorite Big City Moms event to date?
Line - I love the Biggest Baby Showers. Glamourmom exhibits there and I always love the energy and it’s a great way to interact with expectant moms.
BCM- Tell us about your donation program ‘Buy One, Give One’
Line - In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week Celebration & National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, Glamourmom is sponsoring a ‘Buy One, Give One’ donation from August 1, 2010 until August 31, 2010. Any purchase of a nursing bra tank on www.glamourmom.com & www.glamourmom.co.uk during the duration of the program will be matched with a donation to a mom in need.
The lack of information and general awareness on the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as the support system for moms to continue breastfeeding, are some of the many reasons behind our donation program. By increasing the international breastfeeding rate, we can decrease the alarming rate of infant mortality. The World Health Organization estimates that 1.5 million babies die from lack of breast milk each year.
