BCM - How did your life change when you became a mom?
Lynn -Everything changed but I guess the biggest thing was always having someone else to consider. Before kids you have all this time to yourself and then this little ball of wonder comes along and that alone time completely disappears. It is an adjustment but a welcomed one. My girls are super high energy so when I am on, I'm on and sometimes that on switch just doesn't want to move.
BCM - What has been your most memorable moment (s) as a mom?
Lynn -For the first few years I felt like I was playing a role in someone else's life. I was going through the motions, riding the roller coaster without a and enjoying most of it but I never felt like a mom. I felt tired, overwhelmed, loved, thrilled and basically different. I think the first moment I really felt like a mom was one night while getting ready to go out, my daughters were looking up at me and copying my routine. It was hysterical and completely brought me back to the days when I watched my mom getting ready. It was at that moment that I really felt like a mom.
BCM - What has been the biggest challenge for you in motherhood? Lynn -Patience. I am obsessed with efficiency. I am decisive and I have the capacity to get 1,000 things done in an afternoon but with kids you really have to slow down and go at their pace. This pace can be torture at times. I work at this regularly and sometimes I am successful and other times I fail miserably pushing them to their limit. My mother always told me it would take children for me to find patience and I can say I have found some but I'm always looking for more and hopefully I will eventually be able to instill a bit into my kids.
BCM - If you could give another mom or expectant mom one piece of advice, what would it be?
Lynn -Follow your instincts. You will always be your child's best advocate. If something feels wrong, it is.
BCM - How do you manage your career while being a mother and a wife? Any advice for moms?
Lynn -It is a tricky balance but super important to be present where you are. If you are with the kids be with the kids and put the phone away. This year is the first time I will have both girls in school 5 days a week. They both only went three days per week for Nursery School so I could have 2 days to be with them. Now with them being in P.S.58 5 days/week I will have the opportunity to really bump up my work week and that will free up evenings from work and I am thrilled about this. It is always a balance.
BCM - How is it working with your husband?
Lynn - We have a great time working together. I love sharing something that is not about the kids. I think it has really kept our relationship stronger because we are so involved in each others lives. We laugh a lot about the industry. We know the same people, we have similar reactions to situations and our personalities work well together so we get a lot done be it at the office, a trade show or at home. We do have one rule... not to talk about the company on vacations.
BCM - What types of activities do you like to do with your kids?
Lynn -In the summer we hit the Beach at Fort Tilden, the rides at Coney Island and hang in Red Hook at the pool and ball fields. We love to go hiking with the girls in Norway on our pilgrimages to see Harald's family. It's always an adventure with them. They are great travelers and open to almost anything.
BCM- What has been your favorite Big City Moms event to date?
Lynn -The Biggest Baby Shower. It is such a great event for new moms. It opens up their world to this pending baby in a non threatening and exciting way.
