Summertime Snacks

Summer is a time to be on-the-go and to cool down from the hot temperatures outside. Being out and about can make everyone hungry for a delicious treat! We’re sharing some of our favorite summer snacks that are great for those summer road-trips and also some nice snacks to help you cool down after a long day outside.

On-The-Go

Homemade Trail Mix- Grab some of your favorite nuts, dried fruit, and cereal, and let the kids mix it all together. Put it in a bag or a container and let the kids snack when you are out. It’s the perfect mix of sweet and salty that will please everyone!

Pouches- Those baby food pouches just aren’t for babies. They are good for the entire family. They make a healthy and delicious treat while on-the-go.

Kashi Hummus Crisps – These brand new snacks from Kashi are air popped, non greasy and full of fiber. They are non-guilty, delicious, on-the-go ideal snack.

Bare Fruit Snacks – All natural apple chips when we want a fruit, a little crunch and to stay healthy at the same time, we turn to bare fruit snacks. Participants in our Biggest Baby Shower gift bags, bare fruit is all natural, has no sugar added and is an ideal snack on the go. Each bag equals one apple!

Bear Naked– We are longtime fans of Bear Naked and always keep a bag of the granola stocked in our pantry. All natural, filling, either grabbing a handful or with milk, or with yogurt, it’s perfect for adults and kids! And, we are very excited for all if the varieties such as cookies, trail mix and cereal.

Green Giant Veggie Snack Chips– Green Giant has entered the snack category with delicious and savory chips ranging from garden ranch to sea salt. Packed with flavor, these are perfect for any addition to lunches or a summer party spread with a nutritious dip! Pop some in a snack container and pull them out for those long car rides when everyone wants a delicious snack!

Jolly Oak – These good for you granola single serve sleeves of yumminess come in a bunch of different flavor combinations. Our favorite: cinnamon apple raisin – and its gluten free!

Blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, plums, peaches, nectarines–Summer fruit! The most healthiest, nutritious, refreshing, 100% all natural food that you can put in your body is fresh fruit. Just remember to wash one and toss it in your bag before you leave home!

Cool Down

Frozen Pouches- Those fruit and veggie pouches make great snacks while you are on-the-go, but they can also be a great and healthy snack that will help you and your little ones cool down. Freeze your favorite flavored pouches and grab them right before you head out the door. The sun will help them melt a little bit and they will turn into delicious fruit and vegetable smoothies.

Homemade Popsicles- Grab your favorite fruits and get the kids involved in making homemade popsicles. We love the Zoku Mini Molds They just introduced the mini molds and they are the perfect size for little hands. Frozen Fruit- Some of your child’s favorite fruit tastes even better frozen. Try slicing up some fruit and putting it in a jar in the freezer. Pull them out and they make great cool individual snacks. We love slicing up grapes, peaches, and bananas and putting them in Sage Spoonful jars then popping them in the freezer. It’s a quick and delicious treat!

Yogurt Squeezes- An easy, delicious, and fast treat for your little one is to pop those yogurt squeezes into the freezer for a healthy frozen treat. We love theStonyfield Farms YoKids Squeezers.

Frozen Yogurt Sandwiches- Let’s get creative with a yummy, sweet, and cool treat. Place yogurt and sliced fruit between 2 whole grain graham crackers and enjoy!

Fruit Smoothies- Smoothies are a great way for your kids to “eat” those vegetables they might not normally eat at the dinner table. Pop in some of their favorite fruits and a little hidden vegetables and they will have a refreshing drink that’s healthy for them! Yogurt Drops- This is a fun food that you can get your children involved to help you make. Grab a cookie sheet, your favorite yogurt, and put bite sized yogurt drops on the cookie sheet (we like putting the yogurt in a bag and cutting off the corner to dispense.) Once they are frozen they make great bite sized snacks for everyone!

Banana Pop- Peel a banana and put it on a popsicle stick. Dip it in some yogurt and then roll it in some healthy cereal. Freeze the banana and when it’s done you have a great tasting banana pop!

Skinny Cow- These are a constant favorite in our cool treats category, low calorie (150 calories for the cups) and full of taste. You really feel like you are indulging yet not have to worry about packing on the calories.
