A Chat With Superdad Dr. Jose Rocca, Founder of Renzo’s Vitamins

Dr. Jose Rocca’s inspiration for a healthy, melt-in-your-mouth vitamin came from his son, Renzo. When Renzo needed a major surgery, his doctor recommended he be at his strongest—which included introducing a regimen of high-quality vitamins. With his background in pharmaceutical science, Dr. Rocca decided to create a meltable vitamin packed with nutrition. He shared an amusing white lie, a parenting hack and his proudest parenting moment.

Congratulations on the success of Renzo’s! What inspired you to launch your business?

Thank you! My entrepreneurial spirit led me to launch my business, although it was hard to make this decision while I have a family to take care of. However, I felt like I had to do this, or I would regret it for the rest of my life. In the case of Renzo’s, the inspiration came from my son, Renzo, who was in a medical situation where he needed vitamins. Thanks to him, I realized my help was needed.

If you could hand off one chore to someone else each day, what would it be?

I would have someone else answer all of the operational problem solving emails I receive daily.

What is your favorite thing to do to relax and unwind?

Travel…far away.

What is your best parenting hack?

Taking my family on long trips.

What is the best white lie that you’ve told your child?

That the pacifier was taken away by a bird. So every time we see birds flying, we wonder if they’re coming to return it.

If you could describe motherhood/fatherhood in one word, what would it be?

Trust.

What’s one moment in your fatherhood journey that has made you proud?

When Renzo had a successful heart surgery; at the time, he weighed less than four pounds.

What is one piece of advice you want to pass along to your children?

The best investment you can make is in your education.

What is one piece of advice you would pass along to other dads?

Put family first.

How do you tackle the work/life balance?

This is a tough question since my family complains that I am always working, but I make sure we have plenty of time during the week and throughout the year that we are all together. When we’re together as a family, we discuss our plans, and although it can be a small amount of time, it’s the most valuable time I have.
