Molly Lindemann Paolillo and Kyle Nanna worked together for a children’s company before leaping into their own business, Momkindness, which creates products for moms, dads and babies. We talked with Molly and Kyle about their debut product, the Carry-All Tote Trio, their commitment to giving back, and how they brainstorm new business ideas.
Giving back is a big part of your mission. How did you choose to donate a portion of your proceeds to the nonprofit Every Mother Counts?
We’ve been followers and admirers of Every Mother Counts’ founder Christy Turlington Burns ever since we saw her talking about maternal health on TV. It’s always been our goal to start a brand that gives back to the mom community, and what better way than partnering with a foundation that supports moms during pregnancy, the very beginning of their journey into motherhood?
We love the Carry-All Tote Trio—can you tell our readers about it?
We love it too! We know moms juggle a lot in their everyday lives and we set out to design a diaper bag that would help simplify the daily hustle. We’ve talked to hundreds of moms and we know they are looking for products that are versatile and as multi-tasking as they are, so we designed a tote that is just that! It’s 3-bags-in-1, so moms can take any or all of the components they need. The CarryAll Tote is your everything bag – it’s perfect for work and travel with its laptop and luggage sleeves, and the integrated diaper clutch fits into the front pocket and holds a changing pad, wipes and a few diapers. You can grab just the clutch and leave the tote behind if you’re out for a quick trip with baby. The organizer insert is perfect for storing all of baby’s must-haves and easy to leave behind with the sitter while you take the tote with you. There’s no need for multiple bags – this is your EVERYTHING bag!
If you could hand off one chore to someone else each day, what would it be?
Making dinner – I think we both agree on that! It comes at the worst time of day. Just when the kids need to be picked up from sports, those last minute work emails need to be sent and everyone starts asking “What’s for dinner?” With the pressure to try to be creative, healthy and preparing it as fast as possible….it’s definitely not our favorite daily chore!
What is your favorite thing to do to relax and unwind?
We both enjoy running and Kyle’s a swimmer. When we want to brainstorm about new products or marketing tactics, we’ll go for a long walk or hike together and bounce ideas off each other while taking in a little fresh air.
What is your best parenting hack?
Is there such a thing? Let us in on the secret!
If you could describe motherhood/fatherhood in one word, what would it be?
It depends on the day! Sometimes that one word is “joy,” while other days it may be “exhausting.”
What’s one moment in your motherhood journey that has made you proud?
There are too many moments to share – we have seven kids between us! For both of us, kindness is key. When we see our children being inclusive and just genuinely nice to others, it brings a smile to our faces.
What is one piece of advice you want to pass along to your children?
Kindness is everything and so easy to do. You never know what someone else is going through, so don’t be quick to judge— be kind and compassionate.
What is one piece of advice you would pass along to other moms?
Try and enjoy the moments – they go by quickly. And try not to worry so much – this is something we are both still working hard at!!
How do you tackle the work/life balance?
Not that well… it’s a work in progress!
