BCM: What was the best new parenting advice that you received?
JW: TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR LITTLE ONE(S) ONCE A YEAR IN THE SAME SPOT (BY THE FRONT STEPS, XMAS TREE, PARK). YEARS FROM NOW YOU’LL BE PLAYNG THE GAME ‘IF YOU COULD ONLY TAKE ONE ITEM TO A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD IT BE… AND I PROMISE YOU, THIS WILL BE THAT ONE ITEM YOU END UP TAKING
BCM: What new parenting advice would you give to a new mom?
JW: AT THE END OF THE DAY, THERE ARE ONLY THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO DO… FEED YOUR BABY, CHANGE YOUR BABY, AND LOVE YOUR BABY. EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST DRESSING.
BCM: Congratulations on your beautiful family and continued success as the Lifestyle and Fitness correspondent at Today! What was your motivation and inspiration to become a personal trainer, fitness expert and eventually, be on TV?
JW: THE ONLY THING IN OUR LIVES THAT WE HAVE FULL CONTROL OVER IS OUR BODIES. IF WE WANT BIGGER MUSCLES, A TIGHTER STOMACH, MORE SPEED, WE CAN ACTUALLY MAKE THAT HAPPEN. IT MAY TAKE A LOT OF TIME AND A LOT OF WORK, BUT WE CAN CONTROL HOW MUCH WE EAT AND HOW MUCH WE MOVE AND SUCCESS COMES WHEN YOU ARE DISCIPLINED IN BOTH AREAS. I LOVE WORKING WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE ON THAT JOURNEY, I LOVE HELPING THEM GET WHAT THEY WANT, I LOVE THE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS.
BCM: What is one item you always have in your diaper bag?
JW: A PROTEIN BAR (QUEST) AND A BOTTLE OF WATER. IF I’M STARVING, NOTHING ELSE AROUND ME FUNCTIONS PROPERLY.
BCM: How do you manage work time and family time?
JW: I TRY TO STAY PRESENT AND FOCUSED ON EACH. IF I TRY TO THINK ABOUT WORK WHEN I’M HOME WITH THE BABIES, I FAIL. WHEN I TRY TO THINK ABOUT MY BABIES WHEN I’M A WORK, I FAIL. I NEED TO GIVE EACH MY TIME AND ATTENTION AND THEN MOVE ON TO THE NEXT THING IN FRONT OF ME. MY ADVICE IS TO TRY AND BE PRESENT AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.
BCM: What has been your favorite vacation as a family?
JW: WE TOOK HARPER TO PUERTO RICO WHEN SHE WAS 6 MONTHS OLD AND HAD A BLAST. I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN THE CARIBBEAN SO FOR ME, IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO SHARE THAT PASSION FOR SURF AND SAND WITH MY LITTLE GIRL. EVENTUALLY WE’LL TAKE QUINN TO THE ISLANDS AS WELL.
BCM: What is your go-to family meal?
JW: I’M A TERRIBLE TERRIBLE COOK. SO AT A MOMENT’S NOTICE, I CAN USUALLY GIVE HARPER A FULL PLATE OF NUTRITION WITH A ‘PROTEIN’ SHAKE: FROZEN BERRIES, SPINACH, PEANUT BUTTER, YOGURT AND MILK.
BCM: What baby product you could not live without?
JW: FOR QUINN: A BIB. FOR HARPER: BATHTUB CRAYONS. (SHE LOVES THEM), ANYTHING ELMO RELATED, AND THOSE BIG 3SPROUTS SOFT TOY BINS TO HOLD ALL THEIR TOYS.
BCM: What is your perfect family weekend activity?
JW: STEPH AND I MOVE AT 1000 MPH ALL WEEK, SO A LAZY SATURDAY MORNING WITH COFFEE, THE PAPER, AND ALL THE KIDS’ TOYS STREWN ABOUT SO THEY ARE HAPPILY ENGROSSED IN PLAYTIME IS A WELCOMED ACTIVITY.
BCM: If you had one hour to yourself, what would you do?
JW: WORK OUT.
