Founder, Peeled Snacks

BCM: If you could describe motherhood in one word, what would it be?

NW: Miraculous

BCM: What’s one moment in your motherhood journey that has made you proud?

NW: When my son asked his teacher how much sugar is in the various snack options and he chose the lower-sugar snack. He didn’t know I was watching at the time!

BCM: What is one piece of advice you want to pass along to your children?

NW:  To make a lasting change in the world takes a lot of effort, time, and resilience. Have patience, persistence, and perseverance.

BCM: Congratulations on all of the success of Peeled Snacks. What was your inspiration in starting the company?

NW:  Working in the food industry, I was shocked by the pervasiveness of added sugar, preservatives and chemicals in common snack foods. So
I started a company committed to making snacks people could feel good about eating. All Peeled Snacks are made with the highest quality, organic and tastiest ingredients available. For all of our dried fruit and veggie snacks, I always come back to my guiding principle: it’s critical that all of our fruit and veggie snacks are foods that I would personally eat and feed my family.

BCM: We loved the Peeled Snacks are a delicious and healthy snack that the whole family will love. What’s next for the brand?

NW: More veggie snacks! We’re launching White Cheddar and Habanero Lime Peas Please now. Peas Please is the only organic, baked pea snack available and moms are comparing them to healthy cheetos, so we’re excited about these new flavors. We’re also working on a new Chili Mango to add to our dried fruit line that will be out early next year.

BCM: What is one piece of advice you would pass along to other moms?

NW:  Give yourself a break. Life is hard enough without the burden of your own self judgement.

BCM: How do you tackle work/life balance?

NW: Be. Here. Now. Time is finite, so I try to get the most out of what I’m doing at any given time. I aim to have dinner with my kids most nights and be present when I’m with them (no phones at the table).

BCM: If you could hand off one chore to someone else each day, what would it be?

NW:   Filtering through my kids’ school communication, notices, email, and all the administration of organizing their activities.

BCM: What is your favorite thing to do to relax and unwind?

NW: I love to cook, especially if I have a fun vegetable from the farmer’s market or an exotic ingredient for inspiration.

BCM: What is the best white lie you’ve told your child?

NW: “The tooth fairy is real.” I’m a terrible liar, so this is a tough one.

BCM: What is your best parenting hack?

NW:  Giving kids chores such as making their own lunches, cleaning the floors and bathroom, and folding their laundry.

BCM: What was the last book you read?

NW: Amy Schumer’s “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo.”
